Kenya Corn Output May Rise in 2011, Reducing Imports, USDA Says
Kenya’s corn production may rise to 3.8 million metric tons in the marketing year that begins July 1, up from 3.4 million a year earlier, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service said today in a report on its website. Output was 2.2 million tons in 2009.
Corn imports may fall to 10,000 tons in the next marketing year from an estimated 100,000 in the current period, according to the report. Inventories before the harvest in 2012 will rise to 718,000 tons from an estimated 313,000 on June 30, the agency said.
